LIST OF COMMON HEALTH PROBLEMS IN YORKSHIRE TERRIER (YORKIE'S HEALTH )

  • Dental tartar
  • Retained deciduous baby teeth
  • Patellar luxation/Luxating Patella
  • Tracheal collapse
  • Dental tartar
The Yorkshire terriers, like many small toy and teacup dogs also tend to accumulate tartar if you do not care for their teeth religiously.

But where does this tartar come from?
Plaque is a whitish substance which is deposited on the surface of the tooth. It consists mainly of salivary proteins, food (sugars), bacteria and toxins secreted by them.

If this plaque is not removed, it will gradually mineralize, incorporating salts of calcium phosphate in saliva and this will give birth to the tartar.

And unfortunately, unlike the plaque, which can be removed regularly with good oral hygiene, tartar can not be removed with a toothbrush. It is removed by a tartar removal at your vet office. And the dog must be anesthetized for the operation, with all the risks involved, specily for smll dogs like yorkie. So many dies under anesthesia!

    SOLUTION/TREATEMENT
You must remove the plaque as soon as it appears to prevent tartar formation on the teeth of your dog. It must be eliminated as and when it is formed.

    How to remove plaque?
    1) Brushing your dog's teeth

Brush your dog's teeth at least once a day.
There are some specifics kind of toothpaste for dogs.

If your dog does not like the brush, you are also try a kind of brush in which you insert your finger.

At the end of brushing, no deposit of any kind should remained on the teeth: a clean tooth is as smooth as a mirror.
Your finger slid gently to the surface of the teeth can easily check if all the teeth are perfectly clean (Smooth as a mirror) or granular (persistence of plaque).

Personnaly, i was never able to brush the teeth of my dogs they all hate that! Good luck to you!
    2) Give RawHide Bone

Permanently leave rawhide bones to your dog.

That works for me, after eating my dogs often chewed one of those rawhid bones and it cleaned their teeth very well tooth... Mimi my little yorkie of 6 years old have exactly no tartar and she has healthy gum . My vet cannot believe how healthy are the mouths of eeach of my yorkie...no tartar on the teeth never appears! Veterinarians are amazed!
    3) Dental treatment treats

Give at least 1-2 times a week for special dental treatment treats, for example dentabone and dentastyx.

These kind of dog's treats help clean teeth along the gums (clinically proven). Reduces buildup of tartar and plaque. Also freshens breath and promotes dental health.

Personally I always leave my dogs rawhide bones to chew and my 3 yorkie doesn't have ant trace of tartar in their mouth, even my oldest one so it must be very efficient! yorkshire terrier teeth tartar
    4) Prefer Dry Bites

Prefer dry bites food as basic daily food for your little dog. Eat dry food is much better for your little puppy teeth than eating can food!

Try to Avoid table food and canned dog's food. (if possible- i konow it can be difficult to resist our little puppy whan they look at ourself whit their so sute eyes!!!)

You really have to always stick to dry food because small yorkies can be very manipulative and will lift their noses at dry food if they think you will give them something else! They are not crazy these little ones !
